Corte Sconta

In order to truly experience and enjoy the wonderful city of Venice, you have to find its soul in the hidden corners. Let’s uncover my favorite “secret” Venetian spot together!

Corte Sconta is tucked away in a quiet corner of Castello, far away from the busy tourist areas. Discovering it feels like you’ve been let in on a secret with a glass of wine already waiting for you. Even the name of the place reflects this feeling perfectly, as it translates to “Hidden Courtyard”.

Founded in 1980, the restaurant has been inviting its guests on a journey through the flavors of the Venetian Lagoon for decades. And the moment you walk inside, you immediately understand why people keep coming back.

The atmosphere is warm and intimate: soft lighting, rustic interiors, the background sound of conversations, and wine being poured into the glasses. Nothing feels rushed here.
The staff welcomes you with such genuine warmth that it instantly feels less like a restaurant and more personal, like being invited to a dinner at someone’s home in Venice and hosted by friends.

The food is incredibly delicious. Seafood, of course, is the highlight of the menu! It’s fresh, delicate, and balanced. But what really impressed me was the attention to detail. Even the simplest elements, like the bread or the appetizers, were served with care and intention.
I especially loved the guancia – the slow-cooked beef cheek served with creamy mashed potatoes and a nest of kataifi pastry on top. And another absolute standout is the croaker fillet with crystallized pepper and Huancaina sauce. Rich and refined at the same time. Try these once you are here!

On top of that, the chef’s approach to Venetian cuisine is quite fascinating! Corte Sconta describes itself as a place where tradition meets innovation, and after my visit, I can wholeheartedly stand by this. The menu respects classic Venetian notes, while introducing modern techniques and creative touches that make each dish feel memorable.

The wine selection deserves a special mention too, as it completes the experience beautifully. It’s carefully curated and deeply rooted in the Italian traditions, but is also open to the vineyards all across Europe! This is the kind of place where one glass easily turns into another as the evening goes on.

And maybe that is the secret to why Corte Sconta feels so special. More than just a restaurant, it feels like an experience of the real Venice – hidden, authentic, and soulful, with the people who will go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed.

And just a small note: believe me, this is one place you’ll want to reserve a table at in advance.
